Salary: £64,844 - £68,987 per annum Hours per week: 37 hours Interview date: To be confirmed following shortlisting
About the Role
Do you thrive on solving complex challenges and influencing strategic decisions? As a Head of Finance, you will provide inspiring leadership to a high-performing team while driving continuous improvement and value for money across Wiltshire Council. This is a key role where your expertise will shape financial strategy, ensuring strong governance, effective controls, and impactful outcomes for communities.
The finance team is responsible for managing and developing the council’s financial records—budgets, accounts, and government reporting—while supporting services with financial advice, analysis, and monitoring. You will ensure decisions align with available funds and governance rules, representing the council in meetings with senior stakeholders and maintaining accurate financial systems and controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team managing financial records, budget setting, and monitoring
- Oversee Statement of Accounts production and statutory returns
- Collaborate closely with budget holders, service leaders, and senior stakeholders (Corporate Director and Director of Finance) to deliver financial insight
- Support short, medium, and long-term planning, ensuring sponsorship from the CFO
- Champion professional development, foster collaboration, and drive organisational change
- Maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, Members, and external partners, navigating complex challenges effectively
- Ensure financial sustainability and high-quality services while influencing strategic direction
