Head of Finance

Head of Finance Royal Hospital School Holbrook, Ipswich, Suffolk IP9 2RX £60,000 – £65,000 per annum | Full-time | Permanent

The Role: Head of Finance

Purpose: As Head of Finance, you will oversee all financial management and control at the school, ensuring robust systems for:

  • Reporting and financial governance
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and compliance
  • Cash flow management
  • Risk and opportunity assessment

You will provide senior management with accurate, timely financial information to support strategic decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drive financial strategy in alignment with school objectives.
  • Manage annual budgets, forecasting, and cash planning.
  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify risks and opportunities, mitigating challenges where possible.
  • Enhance business intelligence capabilities to support senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with operations, HR, and estates teams to streamline financial workflows.
  • Ensure internal controls are in place to safeguard school assets.

About You

Essential

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in finance leadership, ideally in the educational sector or similar.
  • Qualified accountant status (ACA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Strong budgeting and forecasting expertise.
  • Proficiency in financial software (SAP, Xero, etc.) and rapid analysis of financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Highest standards of safeguarding (genuine background checks apply).

Desirable

  • Experience in faith-based or independent sector education.
  • Knowledge of DBS checks, safeguarding policies, and safeguarding training obligations.
