Head of Finance and Business Operations – 12 Month FTC Programme: Logistics Commodities & Services Transformation (LCST) Location: Bristol (occasional travel)

About the Role

Drive transformative change in the UK’s defence supply chain as Head of Finance and Business Operations. You’ll lead financial strategy for LCST’s £500m annual spend while collaborating with stakeholders across global logistics operations, storage, distribution, and procurement.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead the bi-annual £500m long-term financial forecast (Services & Commodities), assimilating inputs from internal functions and subcontractors
  • Negotiate annual budgets with the Authority, aligning financial expectations with operational constraints
  • Oversee financial benefit reporting, analysing impact across all spend types

Benefit Management & Project Oversight

  • Lead and negotiate the Benefit Share programme with the Authority, ensuring both deadlines and stakeholder expectations are met
  • Promote cost reduction opportunities across GRMS, storage, distribution, freight, and commodity procurement, as well as staff and estate costs
  • Oversee benefit projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-level delivery

Change & Performance Activation

  • Cost-justify change proposals, price strategies, and secure approvals
  • Manage monthly commodity spend reporting and its financial impact
  • Provide ad hoc financial and analytical support to LCST leadership

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Delegate responsibilities to 2 direct reports and a wider team of 9
  • Mentor and develop a high-performance team, fostering collaboration and accountability
  • Deliver exceptional customer service across all stakeholders

Key Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in financial modelling (Excel) and data analysis (large datasets)
  • Expertise operating as a Finance Business Partner, bridging gaps between finance and operations
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical dissection skills
  • Thorough, organised, and detail-oriented mindset
  • Able to adapt to ambiguity, manage deadlines under pressure, and operate independently
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication
  • Proficient in MS Office (advanced Excel emphasised)

Preferred

  • Experience with SQL querying, Power BI, or tools like COBRA/Primavera
  • Professional qualifications: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA
  • Background in Mathematics, Economics, Science, or Business/Finance
  • Proven track record embracing multi-disciplinary roles

Location & Pay

  • Base location: Bristol, UK-only travel (occasional)
  • Competitive salary range: £58,400–£74,900
