Mission:
The Food Network for Ethical Trade (FNET) is a collaborative network of supply chain partners established in 2017 which aims to use the collective leverage of suppliers and retailers to bring about positive change in working conditions in global food, beverage and horticulture supply chains. We do this by providing guidance, resources, training and opportunities for collaboration.
Position:
This part-time role provides senior leadership across finance, operations and organisational effectiveness for FNET. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Board, Finance Independent Non-Executive Director, external accountants and colleagues across the organisation, the Head of Finance and Operations will play a critical role in ensuring FNET has robust financial management, efficient operational systems and the organisational infrastructure needed to support sustainable growth and impact.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys combining the tactical (rolling up your sleeves and ensuring day-to-day finance and operations runs smoothly) and the strategic (leading our budgeting, forecasting and reporting, and providing financial leadership to the exec team). The successful candidate will own our financial processes end-to-end and be equally comfortable forecasting financial scenarios for Board discussion, improving internal processes, strengthening governance and rolling up their sleeves to keep our books and records up to date or to follow up on an unpaid invoice.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Head of Finance and Operations will act as a trusted adviser, bringing constructive challenge, commercial insight and operational expertise to support informed decision-making and long-term organisational sustainability.
Salary and Benefits will be competitive, including a pension with 5% contribution from FNET, 25 days holiday + your birthday + UK Bank Holidays. Our culture is collaborative, creative and fun with lots of opportunities to build your network and knowledge on a host of issues to do with food and human rights.
Salary in the range of £60-69K (pro-rata).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
