Head of Finance Business Partnering
Location: Matlock, Derbyshire (Hybrid – 1 day per week onsite)
Contract: 5-Month Contract
Rate: £42.09 per hour
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance Business Partnering to lead the delivery of a high-performing finance business partnering function within a large and complex public sector organisation. This senior leadership role will drive strategic financial support across departments, enabling informed decision-making, financial sustainability, and the successful delivery of organisational priorities. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, you will lead teams of Senior Finance Business Partners and finance professionals, ensuring the provision of high-quality financial advice, insight, planning, and challenge to senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Finance Business Partnering service, ensuring effective support for strategic and operational decision-making across departments.
- Manage and motivate teams of Senior Finance Business Partners, embedding a high-performance culture focused on delivery and continuous improvement.
- Act as the senior finance business partner for Corporate Services and Transformation functions.
- Support the delivery of budgets, medium-term financial plans, and statutory financial reporting in partnership with wider finance teams.
- Provide strategic financial advice and challenge to directors, senior managers, elected members, and executive leadership teams.
- Interpret complex financial information and communicate its strategic impact to non-financial stakeholders.
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, performance reporting, and financial modelling activities.
- Support organisational transformation programmes by identifying efficiencies, evaluating options, and ensuring robust financial governance.
- Monitor and manage departmental financial risks, contributing to wider corporate risk management activities.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and procedures while promoting best value and sound financial management.

Essential Experience
- Fully qualified CCAB accountant (or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience.
- Significant senior finance leadership experience within a large and complex organisation.
- Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing finance teams.
- Experience delivering large-scale, complex financial projects and transformation programmes.
- Experience working within a politically sensitive environment and providing financial advice to senior stakeholders.
- Strong experience producing and presenting reports, business cases, and financial recommendations to senior leadership teams.
- Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and drive organisational change through effective business partnering.
