About the Role
Hire Space is looking for a hands-on, commercially driven Head of Finance to serve as the operational backbone of our scaling events marketplace. You will own the entire finance function, drive board-level visibility, and partner with Tech and Ops teams to architect a frictionless financial infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Oversee high-volume end-to-end invoicing and complex commission structures, eliminating revenue leakage across custom client contracts (DAS/DAC).
- Rigorously manage company cash flow and accurately reconcile "Client Money" (funds owed to venues) against Net Hire Space revenue.
- Deliver timely management accounts, board packs, and variance analysis, providing absolute clarity on Gross Booking Value (GMV) vs. Net Revenue.
- Act as the internal product owner for finance tools, working directly with Engineering to automate reconciliations and scale our booking platform.
- Manage, mentor, and develop an existing part-qualified Finance Manager, supporting their progression toward full CIMA qualification.
- Partner with a fractional CFO on upcoming fundraising due diligence, annual budgeting, and long-term financial strategy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You should apply if:
- Qualified Accountant: (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with 3+ years of post-qualification experience.
- Marketplace / Transactional Experience: Experience in a high-volume transaction environment (SaaS, Marketplace, eCommerce, or Recruitment) is highly desirable. You understand the difference between GMV and Revenue.
- You are comfortable with modern finance stacks (Xero, automated AP/AR tools) and can speak the language of developers when discussing platform integrations.
- A "FinOps" Mindset: You don't just process invoices; you look for ways to engineer processes so that invoices process themselves.
- We are a growth business. You need to be comfortable switching between high-level strategy and resolving a payment issue for a key client.
What's on offer:
- £90k–£100k base salary with structured annual reviews and enhanced pension contributions.

- Workplace Nursery Scheme (huge tax savings on childcare fees paid via gross pay) plus exceptional maternity/paternity packages.
- Regular team socials, monthly lunches, a £200 home office allowance, Tech/Cycle schemes, and free nights out at top London venues.
