Head of Finance & Tax
Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 + Benefits
Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of a long-established family-owned property group comprising more than 20 entities. Managing a diverse residential and commercial property portfolio generating annual revenues of approximately £5.4 million, the business operates within a complex owner-managed environment.
Reporting to the Group FD, you will take ownership of the finance function while playing a key role in tax planning, compliance and the ongoing financial management of the business.
Supported by a small remote back-office team, this is a varied, hands-on role offering significant autonomy and the opportunity to make a genuine impact.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Reporting
- Oversee the financial management of more than 20 group entities
- Prepare and review monthly and annual financial information
- Produce statutory accounts and ensure all filing deadlines are met
- Manage cash flow and oversee the financial performance of the property portfolio
- Support the owners with financial analysis and strategic decision-making

Tax & Compliance
- Work alongside the family's professional advisers to optimise tax efficiency within the agreed tax planning structure
- Prepare and oversee company tax returns
- Prepare or coordinate family personal tax returns
- Ensure timely quarterly HMRC submissions for VAT and Income Tax
- Manage statutory compliance across all entities
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure full regulatory compliance
- Act as the trusted finance partner to the family owners
Profile
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification, ideally gained within practice
- Approximately 5-10 years' post-qualified experience
- Strong knowledge of corporate taxation, with experience of personal tax highly desirable
- Exposure to owner-managed businesses, family offices or SME groups
- Property sector experience would be advantageous
- Experience of trusts, partnerships and multi-entity group structures would be highly beneficial
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build trusted relationships with business owners
- A proactive, organised and hands-on approach
- Experience using Yardi accounting software
- Knowledge of property taxation and capital allowances
