About the Role
Vetspeed, a fast-growing £25m business in the UK, specialising in B2B and B2C pet cremation services and hazardous waste management, is seeking a Head of Finance to drive its strategic growth.
In this role, reporting directly to the CFO, you will act as a commercially minded finance leader, combining financial management, data analytics, and business performance insight to support decision-making and ensure financial robustness.
Collaborating closely with operational, commercial, and marketing teams, you will translate data into actionable strategies—leading monthly closes, forecasting growth, defining budgeting plans, and managing acquired business unit integrations. Your work will drive financial visibility and efficiency while supporting ambitious expansion plans through investment ROI analysis, tendering, and pricing strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with senior stakeholders across finance, operations, and commercial teams to enhance financial accountability and drive performance.
- Develop and refine financial dashboards and KPI tracking tools to monitor revenue, margins, and profitability trends.
- Oversee the month-end close process—collaborating with an offshore team (AP, AR, reconciliation) to ensure accurate, timely reporting and process optimisation.
- Present monthly performance reviews—including variance analysis—to senior leadership and inform strategic decision-making.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, and newly acquired business unit integration.
- Continuously improve financial processes, supporting cost controls and balance sheet stability in tandem with the Regional Financial Controller.
- Manage the outsourcing of payroll and oversee improvement initiatives in Analytical FP&A, financial business partnering, and price-volume-product profitability.
- Lead 2-3 direct reports, fostering a productive finance team with a focus on maintaining rigor in offshored financial operations.
- Drive hands-on commercial projects: investment appraisals, tender evaluations, pricing strategies, and ROI analysis to underpin growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
