Head of Finance (North) Story Contracting Ltd

Salary: Excellent + Car/Allowance + Bonus

Lusona is delighted to be retained by Story Contracting Ltd to appoint a Head of Finance (North) for their expanding regional leadership team.

Story Contracting is a privately owned, award-winning infrastructure and construction business operating across the UK. With an outstanding reputation for delivery, safety, and long-term client partnerships, the business continues to grow across its core divisions: Energy, Transport, and Construction. The organisation is widely recognised for its collaborative culture, operational excellence, and commitment to continuous improvement.

The Role

This is a pivotal senior leadership appointment within the business. The Head of Finance (North) will:

  • Lead all regional finance activity
  • Ensure robust financial control, high-quality reporting, and effective business partnering to support operational and commercial decision-making
  • Work closely with the regional leadership team to drive performance, strengthen governance, and support sustainable, profitable growth

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the regional finance team, fostering a high-performance culture
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes across the region
  • Provide clear, insightful analysis of trading performance, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Deliver strong financial control and governance frameworks
  • Partner with operational and commercial leaders to influence strategic decisions
  • Drive continuous improvement in finance processes, systems, and reporting

About You

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role within a complex or project-based environment
  • Background in construction, civil engineering, or engineering strongly preferred
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to influence operational decision-making
  • Demonstrable expertise in financial control, reporting, forecasting, and performance analysis
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge at senior level
  • Proven leadership capability, including team development and performance management
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and drive continuous improvement
