Role Description
The Head of Funding & Programme Development is a full-time role responsible for leading Saferworld’s fundraising strategy and programme development across its global portfolio. This hybrid position is based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with a mix of office-based and remote work. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Identifying and cultivating funding opportunities
- Building and maintaining relationships with institutional donors and partners
- Overseeing the design of high-quality, evidence-based programmes
- Leading cross-organisational proposal development processes
- Coordinating inputs from country and thematic teams
- Ensuring alignment with Saferworld’s strategic priorities and conflict prevention approaches

The post holder will:
- Manage and mentor a small team
- Develop systems and tools for funding and programme development
- Monitor funding pipelines
- Provide regular analysis and reporting to senior leadership
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills and experience using evidence, research, and learning to inform funding strategies and programme design.
- Demonstrated team management and team leadership abilities, including mentoring, performance management, and fostering collaborative ways of working.
- Proven experience in research and development (R&D) or programme innovation, ideally within peacebuilding, conflict prevention, humanitarian, or development sectors.
- Advanced project management skills, including planning, coordination of multi-stakeholder processes, and delivery of complex funding proposals to tight deadlines.
- Track record in securing and managing funding from institutional donors (e.g., governments, multilateral agencies, foundations) and strategic partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling concept notes, proposals, and donor reports in English.
- Strong understanding of conflict sensitivity, peacebuilding, or related fields, and commitment to Saferworld’s values and mission.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, with cross-regional teams and partners, and to travel internationally when required.
- Relevant higher education qualification (e.g., international relations, development studies, peace and conflict studies, or related field), or equivalent professional experience.
