About UKCEH

UKCEH is a leading independent research institute with over 600 scientists studying how the natural world works. We take a connected approach across land, water and air to understand environmental systems and build resilience for people and the planet.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Head of Fundraising to design, launch and grow a brand-new function, leading an ambitious £50m campaign that will power science tackling some of the most urgent challenges facing people and the planet. This is a rare opportunity to shape strategy from day one, build the foundations for long-term success, and create lasting impact at scale.

Working across UKCEH, you’ll collaborate with diverse stakeholders while championing a clear, inspiring vision. You’ll define and deliver a compelling fundraising approach, putting in place the governance, systems and capability needed to thrive.

We’re seeking a creative and outward-facing leader who excels at building meaningful relationships with high-value supporters, from major donors to corporate partners. You’ll bring our science to life, crafting powerful stories that resonate, inspire, and unlock transformational support.

Why this role matters

Environmental science has never been more important. UKCEH’s data, models and insight shape national and global understanding of biodiversity loss, water security, climate resilience and sustainable land use. Philanthropy, corporate partnership and crowdfunding will now play a defining role in extending that impact.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Create UKCEH’s first fundraising programme, taking the first steps we have been putting in place to build the strategy, systems, culture and team needed for long-term success.
  • Work in close partnership with our communications and business development teams, our Chair and Board of Trustees and our brilliant scientists and innovators, ensuring fundraising is fully aligned with organisational ambition, external engagement, and UKCEH’s Case for Support.
  • Lead a major, multi-year fundraising campaign, supported by an influential Campaign Planning Group that is already formed and active.
  • Inspire high-value supporters, from philanthropists and foundations to global corporates and mission-aligned partners as well as inspiring the public to support e.g., our citizen science.
  • Shape compelling narratives and Cases for Support, turning complex science into powerful, fundable stories.
  • Establish the governance and capability to ensure the programme becomes self-sustaining by 2028.
  • Confidently track and deliver against Return on Investment targets.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
