Head of Global Asset Allocation Research

Position: Head of Global Asset Allocation Research

About the Role

Vanguard is seeking a senior leader to lead Vanguard’s global asset allocation research function within the Investment Strategy Group (ISG)—the firm’s multi-asset investments group responsible for shaping investment perspectives, portfolio methodologies, and advice frameworks.

As the Head of Global Asset Allocation Research, you will oversee the research and models that underpin capital market assumptions, portfolio construction, and multi-asset solutions, directly influencing Vanguard’s funds, model portfolios, and retirement offerings. The role involves serving as a senior advisor to investment leadership, translating macroeconomic insights into long-term, investor-focused portfolio strategy.

What You Will Do

  • Lead Vanguard’s strategic and dynamic asset allocation research agenda, translating the firm’s capital market assumptions into portfolio strategies.
  • Translate macroeconomic, valuation, and market insights into evidence-based, long-term portfolio positioning aligned with Vanguard’s investment philosophy.
  • Shape portfolio construction frameworks for multi-asset funds, model portfolios, retirement, and advice solutions.
  • Oversee Vanguard’s proprietary Asset Allocation Model and related tools to evaluate risk-return trade-offs and ensure scalable, consistent application across client segments.
  • Define Vanguard’s stance on the role of asset classes in portfolios, including formalising asset allocation views for internal and external audiences.
  • Provide differentiated perspectives on portfolio strategies and represent Vanguard’s views with clients, industry forums, and media.
  • Offer guidance to senior leadership on portfolio positioning, rebalancing, risk scenarios, and alignment between research, methodology, and implementation.
  • Partner with portfolio management, advice, and product teams to inform fund management, product design, model portfolios, and retirement solutions.
  • Set the ISG research agenda, ensuring a cohesive approach covering economics, behavioral research, portfolio construction, modeling, and analytics.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
