Head of Global Asset Allocation Research – Investment Strategy Group (ISG)

About the Role

Vanguard is seeking a Senior Leader to lead the global asset allocation research function within our Investment Strategy Group (ISG)—the firm’s multi-asset investments team responsible for shaping investment perspectives, portfolio methodologies, and advice frameworks.

As Head of Global Asset Allocation Research, you will:

  • Own the research and models underlying capital market assumptions, portfolio construction, and multi-asset solutions, directly shaping Vanguard’s funds, model portfolios, and retirement offerings.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to investment leadership, translating macroeconomic insights into long-term, investor-focused portfolio strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic asset allocation research, translating capital market assumptions into evidence-based portfolio strategies.
  • Convert macro, valuation, and market insights into portfolio positioning aligned with Vanguard’s long-term philosophy.
  • Oversee portfolio construction frameworks for multi-asset funds, model portfolios, retirement accounts, and advice solutions.
  • Direct the proprietary Vanguard Asset Allocation Model, ensuring risk/return trade-offs are scalable and consistent across client segments.
  • Shape Vanguard’s position on asset class roles in portfolios, alongside asset allocation views and flagship research for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Vanguard’s perspectives on portfolio strategies with clients, industry forums, and media.
  • Advise senior leadership on portfolio positioning, rebalancing strategies, risk scenarios, and alignment between research, methodology, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with portfolio management, advice, and product teams to refine fund management, product design, model portfolios, and retirement solutions.
  • Define ISG’s research agenda, standards, and priorities, integrating economics, behavioral research, portfolio construction, and analytics.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
