Exceptional Marketing Leader (Marketing & Recruitment Campaigns) – University of Southampton
About the Role
The University of Southampton seeks an exceptional marketing leader to shape and deliver integrated marketing campaigns across brand, reputation, and student recruitment. This role will oversee high-impact, audience-focused campaigns, ensuring optimal engagement through paid, owned, and earned channels to drive conversions and strengthen the university’s brand globally.
Reporting to the Associate Director Marketing and Recruitment Events, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the External Relations leadership during campaign briefings and reporting. As a senior leader, you will provide strategic direction, align cross-team activity, and foster collaboration with academic colleagues, Professional Services, students, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of integrated marketing campaigns across global markets, ensuring alignment with university-wide objectives and optimal use of paid, owned, and earned media.
- Act as a strategic and collaborative leader, joining disjointed activities and ensuring campaign cohesion.
- Direct a team of marketing managers and coordinators, overseeing the full marketing mix:
- Proposition development
- Campaign promotion
- Conversion optimisation
- Bridge communication between diverse stakeholders, ensuring campaigns anticipate audience needs and adapt to sector trends.
- Approve campaign content, ensuring consistency with the university’s reputation and identity.
- Measure campaign performance and share learnings across teams.

Requirements
- Proven track record in strategic marketing leadership, demonstrated through campaign development, stakeholder management, and team leadership.
- Experience in campaign accountability, including:
- Measuring success metrics and delivering cost-effective ROI.
- Developing creative alternatives when branded content isn’t available.
- Ability to act decisively under pressure, solve complex challenges, and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with academic, internal, and external stakeholders.
- Experience in education marketing is advantageous but not essential.
