Head of Global Media Relations

Duration: 12 Months

Location: Reading UK (Hybrid Work Available)

Start date: ASAP

Position Overview

This opportunity is focused on leading a global media relations function within a complex international business environment. The role is centred on protecting corporate reputation, shaping external communications strategy, and providing senior-level counsel on high-profile issues and announcements. This position will suit a communications professional with strong judgement, a strategic mindset, and deep expertise in media engagement across international markets. The role offers the chance to influence reputation outcomes at senior leadership level while overseeing a fast-paced global press office.

Role Context

The role involves close collaboration with executive leadership, brand and marketing teams, legal stakeholders, regional communications teams, and external PR partners. The working context includes major announcements, reputational risk management, and crisis communications on a global scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver proactive and reactive global media relations strategies.
  • Act as the senior media relations lead and provide strategic counsel to senior leaders.
  • Manage the global press office and coordinate media enquiries across multiple markets.
  • Lead crisis communications and support the management of reputational issues.
  • Identify emerging risks and develop messaging, Q&As, and engagement strategies.
  • Prepare and coach senior stakeholders for interviews, announcements, events, and media engagements.
  • Oversee the development of press releases, statements, briefing materials, and media content.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, analysts, and relevant external influencers.
  • Monitor media coverage, sentiment, and performance to support ongoing communications strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Significant experience in media relations, external communications, or journalism.
  • Proven background leading media relations for a major brand or multinational organisation.
  • Strong expertise in crisis communications and reputation management.
  • Deep understanding of global, digital, and social media environments.
  • Experience within automotive, energy, lubricants, industrial technology, mobility, or comparable sectors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong judgement, resilience, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience using analytics, monitoring tools, and AI-enabled communications solutions would be advantageous.
