Head of Health & Safety

Head of Health & Safety – Hickory’s Smokehouse

Hickory’s Smokehouse, proudly crowned "Best Employer" for 2025 at The Publican Awards. As the fastest-growing Southern-style Smokehouse group in the UK, we’re all about traditional American BBQ, strong teams, and real progression.

We’re looking for an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead our commitment to safety, compliance, and staff well-being. The role offers a generous package of up to £70,000 per year—plus an unmatched benefits package to match the energy of our business.

About the Role

The Head of Health & Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading health, safety, and compliance strategies across all restaurants in the UK. This role ensures our business operates in full compliance with legal requirements while fostering a safety-first culture that protects employees, customers, and brand reputation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and deliver a company-wide H&S strategy, aligned with business goals
  • Act as the subject matter expert on all health & safety (H&S) matters
  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional or site-based H&S teams
  • Influence senior stakeholders to drive a proactive safety culture

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to all UK HSE legislation, food safety laws, and local authority regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates
  • Oversee audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all locations
  • Manage relationships with regulatory bodies (including HSE and Environmental Health Officers)

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
