Head of Health & Safety

0.8 FTE / 28 Hours per week
Grade 8, £35,796 - £45,228 (Pro-rata of £44,746 - £56,535)

Who we’re looking for:

We are seeking an experienced and qualified health and safety professional to lead and shape our approach to safety, compliance and risk management. You will bring significant experience of advising at senior level within a complex organisation, alongside in-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation. A confident and credible expert, you will be proactive, solutions-focused and skilled at influencing others to embed a positive safety culture.

Please note that a DBS check will be required for this role.

What you’d be doing:

As our Head of Health & Safety, you will act as the University’s lead expert, providing authoritative advice and assurance to senior leaders and colleagues across the organisation. You will develop and embed a proactive, risk-based approach to health and safety, leading on audits, compliance frameworks and organisational learning from incidents. Working collaboratively with teams across the University, you will drive continuous improvement in safety culture, support effective risk management, and act as the main point of contact for external regulators and inspections.

You’ll need to enjoy:

  • Building trusted relationships and working collaboratively across teams to embed a positive safety culture
  • Influencing, advising and constructively challenging stakeholders
  • Using data, insight and analysis to identify risks and improve performance
  • Designing and delivering training to develop capability and confidence in others
  • Taking a proactive, solutions-focused approach to improving systems and processes

Where you’ll work:

In this role, you’ll be based on our green campus in the north of Plymouth. The role is primarily campus based, with strong onsite presence required. Some hybrid working may be possible.
