Head of Health and Safety and Compliance – Social Housing – 6 Month FTC – £71,622 Pro Rata
Venn Group are recruiting for an experienced Head of Health and Safety and Compliance to join a Social Housing organisation on a 6 month fixed term contract. This Head of Health and Safety and Compliance role is a key leadership position responsible for health and safety, landlord compliance and the big six compliance areas across housing stock.
This Head of Health and Safety and Compliance opportunity is ideal for someone with strong Social Housing, construction health and safety and compliance leadership experience. The successful candidate will ensure employees work safely, customers live safely in their homes and the organisation meets its statutory obligations across gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, legionella and lifts.

The role
As Head of Health and Safety and Compliance, you will lead the organisation’s health and safety and compliance function, ensuring strong governance, statutory compliance and effective reporting across all relevant workstreams. The Head of Health and Safety and Compliance will coach and influence Directors, managers and employees to keep health and safety at the forefront of everyday activity.

You will also lead on big six compliance, contractor safety, occupational health and safety management systems, business continuity planning and emergency response where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead health and safety and compliance strategy across the organisation
- Ensure compliance across the big six areas including gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, legionella and lifts
- Promote a proactive health and safety culture across all teams
- Lead, manage and develop the Health and Safety and Compliance team
- Review, develop and implement the Occupational Health and Safety Management System
- Provide strategic health and safety reports and compliance updates to Leadership Team and Board
- Manage health and safety performance data, risk actions and recommendations
- Work with contractors, managers and operational teams to monitor contract compliance
- Lead training programmes for Board Members, Directors, managers and employees
- Liaise with HSE, Local Authority, Fire and Rescue, Police and external enforcement bodies
- Manage fleet compliance including vehicles and telematics
- Oversee facilities management of key office buildings
- Manage the health and safety budget and support business continuity planning

About you
- Experience working as a Head of Health and Safety and Compliance, Head of Compliance, Head of Health and Safety or similar
- Strong background within Social Housing, construction, property services or compliance
- Chartered Member of IOSH minimum
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent required
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation affecting housing and construction
- Experience leading teams, setting direction and managing performance
- Confident reporting to Executive level, Leadership Teams and Board
- Strong data analysis, report writing and risk management skills
- Sound financial awareness including budget and project management
- Full clean UK driving licence essential
Desirable
- Environmental Management qualification
- Coaching qualification
- Experience implementing an integrated Occupational Health and Safety Management System
