About The Role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing to join our Power Transmission and Distribution Team in Scotland.

Based in Elgin, this role offers the opportunity to lead the health and safety function on one of Balfour Beatty’s flagship overhead line projects, providing visible leadership and driving a strong safety and wellbeing culture across the project lifecycle.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and ensure the delivery of the Business Unit/Project Zero Harm Strategy.
  • Manage the recruitment and development of HS&W professionals within their chain of command, including coaching and mentoring as required.
  • Develop professional relationships with regulators, customers, joint venture partners, and supply chain.
  • Undertake health and safety compliance evaluations, tours, and audits as required and to ensure sufficient assurance of project activities.
  • In conjunction with Executive General Managers / Managing Directors / Directors, carry out project and business sector HS&W performance reviews and reporting using lagging and leading indicators.
  • Review and investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and effectively share lessons learned across the BU and the wider BB, ensuring actions are through the serious incident review process.
  • Deputise for the Head of HS&W (Scotland) where required.
  • Work with the wider BB HS&W team to promote Zero Harm and continuous improvement of performance through special projects, local initiatives, and HS&W improvement plans, including continuous improvement of the BMS.

Who we're looking for

The Following Qualities/Experience Are Required

  • Corporate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards)
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NCRQ qualification
  • Must have detailed, technical knowledge and experience in Health and safety legislation, regulations, and guidance.
  • Construction industry experience and in particular CDM (where specific construction sector industry experience etc. is required (e.g., utilities, major projects) then specify)
  • Must have prior experience of providing leadership and support to operational and functional teams and of working at a senior level.
