I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We are looking for a proven senior HSEQ leader who has operated within a large, complex and multi-site organisation. You will have experience influencing senior stakeholders, managing sizeable HSEQ teams and embedding a positive safety culture across a workforce of several thousand employees and contractors.

Whether your background is in FM, infrastructure, utilities, transport, manufacturing, engineering, energy, defence or another high-hazard environment, you'll bring the credibility, strategic capability and leadership presence required to succeed in this role.
Essential Experience & Qualifications

- Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow of IOSH with an up-to-date CPD record.
- Extensive senior leadership experience in Health and Safety within complex operational businesses.

- Experience leading assurance programmes, audits, investigations and safety improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders while building strong working relationships.
- Experience engaging with regulators, clients and industry bodies.
- Demonstrable success leading and developing high-performing teams.
Desirable
- Lead Incident Investigator qualification (TopSet or equivalent).

- Strong strategic thinking and commercial awareness.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative and engaging leadership style.
- The credibility and confidence to challenge constructively.
- Passion for creating positive and sustainable safety cultures.
- Resilience, adaptability and a continuous improvement mindset.
This role will suit an experienced senior HSEQ leader from a large, complex and operationally intensive organisation. We welcome applications from candidates within sectors such as infrastructure, utilities, transport, engineering, manufacturing, construction, energy, defence or other highly regulated environments where safety leadership is critical to business success.
