Head of Technology

Remote (UK) | Monthly visits to South Coast £100,000 - £120,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Our client is an ambitious and growing technology-led organisation seeking an experienced Head of Technology to lead and develop its technology function.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior technology leader to shape technology strategy, drive operational excellence and play a key role in scaling both the organisation's platforms and internal technology capabilities. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will provide leadership across engineering, architecture, platform operations, security, IT service delivery and technology governance, ensuring technology continues to support business objectives while creating a strong foundation for future growth.

Leading a team of technology professionals across engineering and operational disciplines, you will balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, ensuring systems, services and teams are secure, scalable, reliable and aligned to business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the technology strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and future growth plans
  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing technology team, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Provide leadership across software engineering, architecture, platform operations and IT service delivery
  • Define and embed engineering best practices across development, testing, deployment and operational support
  • Own and evolve the technical architecture of core systems and platforms
  • Ensure technology platforms are secure, resilient, scalable, and performant
  • Lead IT operations, including infrastructure, end-user computing, service management and enterprise systems
  • Drive operational excellence across incident, problem and change management processes
  • Oversee technology suppliers and third-party service providers, ensuring effective governance and value for money
  • Lead technology security, risk and compliance activities, including oversight of the ISO 27001 programme and ongoing information security improvements
  • Improve engineering productivity through tooling, automation and process optimisation
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across the business to translate strategic objectives into effective technology solutions
  • Contribute to technology budgeting, planning and investment decisions

Technology Environment

Our client's technology estate includes modern JavaScript/TypeScript applications, Ruby and Python services, and a serverless AWS platform. They place a strong emphasis on software quality, cloud-native architecture, automation, security, observability and continuous delivery. This role is less about expertise in any one technology stack and more about providing leadership across a modern technology organisation, balancing engineering excellence with operational effectiveness and business outcomes.

You'll Ideally Bring

  • Previous experience in a senior technology leadership role such as Head of Technology, Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or Technical Director
  • Strong software architecture and system design expertise
  • Experience building and scaling cloud-native applications and technology platforms
  • A track record of leading engineering teams within Agile delivery environments
  • Experience overseeing IT operations and service delivery functions
  • Knowledge of technology governance, cybersecurity, risk management and compliance frameworks
  • Experience improving delivery performance, engineering quality and operational maturity
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing and DevOps principles
  • Experience with AWS and distributed systems
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and leadership skills
  • A pragmatic approach to balancing technical excellence, operational stability and commercial priorities

The organisation operates a flexible remote-first culture, with regular opportunities to connect with colleagues through team-building and social events across the South East.

While this is a predominantly remote position, the successful candidate should be comfortable travelling occasionally within the South East to meet team members, support collaboration initiatives and participate in company events.
