I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements
We're looking for a senior technology leader with strong infrastructure and operational credibility, combined with the ability to lead people through change. You may currently be operating as a Head or Director of Infrastructure, Technology Operations, IT Services or a similar technology leadership role within a complex, platform based environment.
The successful candidate will bring experience across infrastructure, cloud, cyber, service delivery and operational resilience. Just as importantly, they will be collaborative, commercially aware, pragmatic and able to build trust with experienced technical teams while introducing new ways of working.
Career Development
This role has been designed with long-term succession in mind. Whilst initially appointed at Head of level, the successful individual will join the Technology leadership team and, for the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to broaden the remit and progress into a Director-level position as both the function and the wider organisation continue to grow.
