Our client

Our client is an ambitious, venture-backed medical technology company that is transforming healthcare through pioneering innovation. The business is entering an exciting new phase of growth, creating an opportunity for an exceptional lawyer to join as its first dedicated Head of Legal.

As the company's first inhouse counsel, you will have the platform to shape the legal function, influence strategic decision-making, and work directly with an impressive leadership team as the business scales. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will work closely with the Board and leadership team. A trusted business partner, helping shape strategy, support growth initiatives, and build the legal foundations of a company with global ambitions. This role offers a unique opportunity to operate at the heart of a scaling business and have a genuine impact on its future success.

The Role

As the organisation's lead legal adviser, you will provide strategic, commercial and practical legal support across the business. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will help the company navigate growth opportunities while managing legal risk in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO, Board and leadership team on a broad range of legal and commercial matters.
  • Leading the negotiation and management of commercial contracts with customers, suppliers and strategic partners.
  • Supporting fundraising activities, investor engagement and corporate transactions.
  • Supporting international expansion projects and cross-border business activities.
  • Leading the legal function and managing relationships with external counsel.
  • Taking ownership of corporate governance and company secretarial responsibilities.
  • Providing guidance on compliance, data protection, risk management and regulatory matters.

About You

You will be a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys being close to the business and thrives in a dynamic growth environment.

You are likely to have:

  • Around 6–9 years' PQE with a strong background in corporate and commercial law.
  • Experience gained in a leading law firm, an innovative in-house environment, or a combination of both.
  • Strong commercial contracting experience and confidence advising senior stakeholders.
  • Exposure to fundraising transactions, corporate governance and board-level matters.
  • The ability to balance legal risk with commercial opportunity and provide pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and the confidence to operate as a standalone legal leader.

Experience in MedTech, life sciences, healthcare or other regulated sectors would be advantageous. In addition to an understanding of regulatory frameworks such as FDA, UKCA or CE compliance.
