THE OPPORTUNITY – HEAD OF LEGAL
Responsible for delivering expert legal support across commercial, operational, and regulatory matters, including legacy obligations; provides support in dispute resolution, and external counsel, while representing the company in key industry legal forums; for being the main interface for all Shareholder (SHO) communications and ensures adherence to the Shareholder and Contribution Agreement.

Spirit Energy currently has a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based workers. 4 days must be worked in the office with compulsory days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The fourth day worked in-office (either Monday or Friday) is of the worker’s choosing but should be in keeping with what is most efficient and effective for their team. The office is open 5 days a week for full-time, in-office working if this is the contractor’s preference.

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…
In role, you will be required to:
Legal Advice & Support
- Provides legal advice and guidance on all business matters including joint ventures, industry regulations, procurement, supply chain, and disputes
- Provide advice and support on legacy residual obligations, liabilities, and transition activities arising from the sale of Norway and the Netherlands and other historic strategic agreements.
- Interprets and advises on the terms of existing contracts and agreements
- Advises on the legal implications of operational activities
Contract & Agreement Management
- Drafts, negotiates, and concludes a range of agreements
- Participates actively in the contract governance and strategy
Dispute & Claims Management
- Manages and supports the business in handling claims and disputes, ensuring appropriate legal resolution
External Legal Services Management
- Oversees and manages the engagement of external legal counsel, ensuring services are fit for purpose and cost-effective
- Acts as the company’s legal representative in key industry groups such as Oil and Gas UK legal committee
Shareholder Interface
- Lead the interface for Shareholder Organisation (SHO) communications, managing the flow of information to ensure consistent messaging across all sources and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., REMIT).
- Organise SHO meetings and briefings
- Coordinate & streamline shareholder approvals and consultation processes
- Facilitate effective shareholder interaction and engagement
- Strengthen communication governance frameworks
- Ensure Spirit Energy and its shareholders meet their obligations under the Shareholder Agreement and Joint Venture Contribution Agreement

Governance & Secretariat
- Provides secretariat support as needed to governance boards and committees
- Any other associated duties as reasonably required
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
- Substantial oil and gas law experience either in-house or private practice
- Experience within the Oil & Gas industry is desired
- Experience working with external stakeholders is desired
- BA Law (LLB) or equivalent from a recognized university
- Experience in Oil & Gas environment
- Holds a practicing certificate issued by the Law Society of England & Wales or the Law Society of Scotland
