Role: Head of Legal/General Counsel (5+ PQE)

Employer: International luxury e-commerce company

Salary: £200,000 - £250,000

Location: City of London

Our client, an international e-commerce firm focused on luxury goods, is looking for a confident General Counsel or Head of Legal to assist their London based CEO and grow the existing legal team. With subsidiary companies and offices across several continents (with a substantial South Asian presence), the firm has a small existing team of junior legal professionals but are looking for a new leader to assist with the running of legal matters and development of a larger team as the firm rapidly scales.

Duties within this role include:

  • Supervising the in-house legal team
  • Supporting the firm in the capacity of an In-house General Counsel
  • Advising senior executives
  • Advising on commercial contracts
  • Handling corporate governance matters
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Managing AML
  • Managing risk management

A strong candidate will come from a similar position, ideally a company that has an e-commerce focus or an Asian presence. Experience managing a team within a rapidly growing company is essential, ideally as part of a business that has scaled from tens of millions to hundreds of millions in revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior Executives including the current CEO with legal matters and the continued growth of the current legal team.
  • Advise on matters relating to the scaling and development of the company including the implementation of new processes.
  • Manage complex in-house matters including commercial and finance contracts, regulatory compliance, AML, and risk management.
  • Direct the existing in-house legal team, providing guidance and support to junior legal professionals when necessary.
  • Supporting the development of the office and assisting with office initiatives.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • UK qualified solicitor of 5+ PQE or equivalent qualification. Other levels will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Excellent post-qualification experience including time within a multinational or international in-house environment as a "Head of Legal" or "General Counsel".
  • Strong experience with a rapidly growing company, assisting on the scaling of internal processes and the development of an existing legal team.
  • Time spent supervising junior members of staff utilising strong management skills.
  • Experience with commercial contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and AML matters.
