Head of Machine Learning & AI

  • Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office)
  • Salary & Benefits: £140,000 + 30% Bonus

We're partnering with a high-growth, customer-centric digital business undergoing a significant period of transformation to appoint an experienced Head of Machine Learning & AI.

This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on production-grade machine learning systems that directly shape customer experience and commercial performance across one of the UK's leading digital platforms.

You'll lead a team responsible for recommendation, ranking, search and personalisation capabilities embedded across key customer journeys, while also shaping the next generation of AI-powered product experiences through LLMs and generative AI.

Working as part of the wider Product & Technology leadership team, you'll:

  • Influence product strategy
  • Guide investment decisions
  • Act as the senior authority for Machine Learning & AI across the organisation

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the Machine Learning & AI strategy across the organisation
  • Lead production ML systems spanning recommendations, ranking, search and personalisation
  • Drive measurable commercial outcomes, including:
    • Customer engagement
    • Conversion
    • Revenue growth
  • Shape customer-facing AI capabilities using:
    • LLMs
    • Generative AI
    • Intelligent automation
  • Set technical direction across:
    • Modelling
    • Experimentation
    • Evaluation
    • ML lifecycle management
  • Partner closely with:
    • Product teams
    • Engineering teams
    • Data teams
    • Platform teams
  • Improve scalability, observability and speed-to-production across ML systems
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of:
    • ML engineers
    • Applied scientists
  • Act as the senior ML & AI leader across the wider technology organisation

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience leading Machine Learning, Applied Science or AI Engineering teams
  • Strong background delivering production ML systems, such as:
    • Recommendation systems
    • Ranking systems
    • Search solutions
    • Personalisation algorithms
  • Commercial mindset with experience using ML to drive:
    • Measurable business outcomes
  • Ability to influence technical strategy across:
    • Complex, customer-facing platforms
  • Experience with, or strong interest in:
    • LLMs
    • Generative AI
    • AI-powered digital experiences
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration across:
    • Product
    • Engineering
    • Data
    • Platform teams
