Head of Major and Complex Loss - Gallagher Bassett

We’re searching for a passionate, seasoned leader to take on the role of Head of Major and Complex Loss. In this senior management position, you’ll lead a team of experienced loss adjusters while driving excellence in claims handling and client relationships. This is a chance to combine operational leadership with a passion for impactful service delivery to high-value commercial property clients.

Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and manager a team of top-tier Major and Complex Loss (MCL) adjusters, setting high-performance standards and offering continuous guidance.
- Inspire and develop colleagues, promoting a culture of continuous improvement in client service excellence.
- Design and refine team structures to ensure optimal workflow and individual role clarity.
- Foster a driving spirit among team members to maintain superior industry standards.
Claims Management & Ownership
- Take personal responsibility for a portfolio of high-value property loss claims, right from initial assessment to final settlement.
- Ensure every claim is resolved in line with customer service commitments, internal standards, and KPIs.
- Provide well-researched, accurate reports, claims evaluations, and detailed correspondence for all stakeholders.
Client & Stakeholder Relationships
- Build and maintain trust and long-term relationships with clients, brokers, and other key stakeholders.
- Act as senior face of the business, advocating for exceptional service, ethical conduct, and a strong market reputation.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing client partnerships, ensuring satisfaction and retention.
Strategic & Operational Oversight
- Shape team and market strategies to drive improved client outcomes and operational agility.
- Collaborate with directors to handle fluctuating work demands efficiently and flexibly.
- Deliver on financial targets while ensuring alignment with budgetary and growth objectives.
- Participate in business development initiatives, from tenders to pitch presentations.

Technical Expertise & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain and uphold technical excellence in claims handling processes.
- Convene technical sessions and seminars to enhance internal expertise and external outputs.
- Develop and share training resources to support team professional growth.
About You
To drive success in this role, you’ll bring:
✔ Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Veteranship in property loss adjusting, with deep commercial property claims knowledge.
- Active ACILA or FCILA professional accreditation.
- Proven leadership experience (ideally managing loss adjuster teams) with a focus on motivating, mentoring, and performance development.
- Strong background in operations, workflow design, and process improvement.
✔ Core Skills & Traits
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
- Ability to strategically engage with senior clients and industry leaders.
- Problem-solving orientation under pressure—balancing speed with precision.
- Adaptability in dynamic environments and ability to meet fluctuating work demands.
- Adeptness to negotiations and stakeholder management.
- Flexibility—regular travel is expected, along with occasional healthcare/travel insurance work.
- Valid driving licence and eligibility to work in the UK.
