Head of Manufacturing

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing | Central England

Allerton Bishop is delighted to be partnering with a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer to appoint a Head of Manufacturing.

This is a key senior leadership appointment within a highly regulated GMP manufacturing environment, responsible for leading manufacturing operations, driving operational excellence, and developing high-performing production teams.

Reporting into the Site Leadership Team, you will play a critical role in delivering manufacturing performance, improving operational efficiency, and supporting future growth through continuous improvement, technology transfer, and operational investment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to Production Managers and Shift Leaders, developing a high-performing manufacturing organisation.
  • Drive operational excellence across pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, improving productivity, quality, cost and service performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma and other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Ensure all manufacturing activities are delivered safely and remain fully compliant with GMP, regulatory and quality standards.
  • Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain and Technical Services to optimise manufacturing performance and equipment reliability.
  • Support technology transfer activities and the successful introduction of new pharmaceutical products into commercial manufacture.
  • Develop KPIs, monitor manufacturing performance and implement improvements to maximise OEE, productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Build a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous development across the manufacturing function.

  • Degree qualified in Life Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy or a related scientific discipline.
  • Significant pharmaceutical manufacturing industry experience.
  • Strong experience leading Production / Manufacturing teams.
  • Demonstrable success delivering operational improvements, manufacturing efficiencies and cultural change.
  • Strong understanding of GMP, operational excellence and modern manufacturing principles.
