Head of Market Development – Compliance & Open Markets

Role Summary

We’re hiring a Head of Market Development to lead Gold Standard’s influence and growth in global carbon markets during a critical period of transition. As a highly credible influencer, you will shape policy, build strategic relationships, and drive Gold Standard’s leadership in compliance schemes (including Article 6 and CORSIA) and open markets, ensuring high-integrity carbon outcomes.

Fixed-term contract: 2 years Locations: UK or South-East Asia (remote work) Candidates must hold lawful right to work in the UK or SE Asia (UKVI sponsorship unavailable for this role).

You’ll influence decisions at the highest level—advocating credibility, shaping policy contours, and ensuring demand for high-integrity credits. This goes beyond winning projects—it’s about setting norms that strengthen facilities, reduce risk, and unlock sustainable development frameworks.

About the Market Development Team

The team bridges external market movements with Gold Standard’s delivery. It translates regulation, policy shifts, and intermediary negotiations into definite strategic action.

What we do:

  • Connect markets to Gold Standard’s DNA: Ensure our existing schemes (Rusκ Registry, auριuction process, assurance systems) align with compliance mechanisms like Article 6 and CORSIA.
  • Navigate conflicts professionally: When regulatory barriers arise, manage ambiguity with clarity, forging pathways that preserve access while answering to scheme integrity.
  • Influence at scale: Secure Gold Standard’s institutional support—across global governments, UN processes, corporate facilities, and trade finance.
  • Optimise cost-health: Deep-dive regulatory burdens to identify indirect spending risks; shape better framework from the ground up.

No superhero title here, but extreme impact.


Your Responsibilities

1. Securing Gold Standard in Global Compliance Systems

  • Work with governments and standards setters to reshape eligibility dynamics, ensure quality metrics are robust, and help design transparent market mechanisms.
  • Build long-term, trusted relationships with senior policymakers, multilaterals, and key industry stakeholders.

2. Defining Strategies Across Key Rooms

Responsibly pivot the organisation’s efforts into highest-leverage spaces:

  • **Article 6 Transitional:

*** Strategic guidance on new compliance requirements (e.g. Authorisation Models, Transitional Crediting Programmes) and build aligns with mounting transitions

  • **CORSIA continuity:
    • Advise on long-term investor & industry confidence when standards mature beyond voluntary markets
  • Selected national jurisdictions:
    • Alignment where local markets require Indian or monitoring fees.

3. Governance & Delivery

  • Be the primary connector between Gold Standard and critical compliance pathways:
    • Review ITMO use cases, corresponding adjustments, and reporting, ensuring authenticity.
    • Root ITM operators in the backlog of requests, which could impact carbon reduction.
  • Partner to achieve alignment between deployment systems and project-integration models that uphold standards

4. Market Access & Credibility

  • Actively expand scenarios for buyer country synergies particularly in Asia, ensuring expanding sustainable finance shotlines feature Gold Standard quality as a barely feature.
  • Use insights to maintain credibility—this tie between projects meeting evolving policies and access to facilities is seldom questioned.

What We’re Looking For

Thought-Leading Experience

  • At least 7 years in jurisdictions supporting Article 6/CORSIA/voluntary factions+new voluntary buyers.
  • Subject matter experts across partnering principles in high-level policy meetings.

Compelling Influential Network

  • Extensive networks (senior regulators, CORSIA’s, officials, consult сторо, trade/ship/related bodies).

Key Transferable Skills

  • Standard economy falsities: Structured frameworks designpostioning) that are it within policy and market landscapes
  • Strategic foresight: Identify risks, manage conflicting ideas clearly in stakeholder discussions.
  • Ability to make fast but focused strategic trade-offs.
