Head of MSU
Head of Missile Systems University (UK) – MBDA
MBDA’s Missile Systems University (MSU) sustains and develops core capabilities for its domestic and export customers, delivering contractual obligations in transferring weapon systems knowledge and technologies. We are seeking an experienced strategic leader to head the UK arm of this global initiative.
- Salary: Circa £85,000 (depending on experience)
- Location: Requires onsite presence in Stevenage (Hertfordshire) as needed, along with monthly international travel for up to one week at a time
- Security Requirements:
- Must be a British Citizen
- HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks required post-offer
Key Responsibilities
Leading the UK’s missile systems knowledge transfer strategy in alignment with MBDA’s global vision, your role will include:
- Strategy and Delivery:
- Supporting export contract wins through tailored knowledge-transfer solutions
- Ensuring successful delivery of customer commitments, protecting financial performance and reputational integrity
- Risk assessment to avoid contractual non-acceptance and penalties

Training and Development:
- Designing and delivering innovative training and capability-building offerings for international customers
- Developing partnerships with UK academic institutions, military organisations, training authorities, and research bodies in compliance with Group MSU objectives

Team Leadership and Governance:
- Managing and Mentoring a small specialist team alongside key external partners
- Serving as MSU UK’s representative in HR governance and strategic planning forums
- Representing MSU UK to export customers and partners, ensuring creditability and professionalism
Requirements
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record in defence, aerospace, or high-regulation environments, with direct accountability for programme delivery and teams
- Forward Control Contracts: Expertise in export programmes, international customers, and complex contractual frameworks
- Customer Relations: Ability to build strong relationships with military organisations, research institutions, and industry partners
- Travel and Flexibility: Willingness to travel extensively internationally (up to one week per month; 1–2 weeks’ notice required)
- Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial risk, margins, and penalty exposure in contract execution
