Role Overview
The Liberal Democrats seek an outstanding Head of Office—the senior operational lead for the Party Leader, based at Westminster HQ and Lib Dem offices, with brief periods of travel and work-from-home during recess.
This high-profile role demands notable organisational skill, political acumen and resilience to ensure seamless operations for election season.
Key Responsibilities
Diary & Executive Support
- Deliver comprehensive executive assistant (EA) services to the Leader and Chief of Staff, including:
- Complex diary management, administrative triage, and ad-hoc personal assistant support.
- Lead high-stakes ad hoc projects across political, admin, and seasonal workstreams.
Office & Financial Oversight
- Manage and track the Leader’s office budget, including corporate card acquisitions and expense processing.
- Maintain a fully provisioned operational environment, including post/mail logistics.
- Oversee "front of house" triage for:
- Public and MP/Dignitary correspondence via the Leader’s in-box.
- Lead team social and away-day planning for Parliamentarians.

Tours, Engagement & Travel Coordination
- Execute end-to-end logistics for national tours, constituent visits, and high-profile engagements, including:
- Direct line-management of the Leader’s Visits Coordinator.
- Maintain rigorous political context, planning and execution focus.
Stakeholder & External Liaison
- Serve as a trusted senior contact for:
- MPs, Lords, party officials, external dignitaries and private-sector executives.
- Draft and manage high-level political communications with acute judgement.
Person Specification
Candidates must embody Conservative yet grounded political acumen alongside technical excellence. Essential:
- Administrative & Logistics Skills: Iron-clad diary/project management experience for dynamic, multi-stakeholder agendas.
- High-Pressure Leadership: Comfort operating in '+200 balls in the air' environments with evolving deadlines.
- Diplomatic Confidence:
- Ability to calmly liaise with senior public figures across formats and venues.
- Political Insight:
- Deep grasp of UK political spectacle, discretion, and inter-party dynamics.
- Sympathy with Liberal Democrat principles (e.g., freedoms, progressive reform).
- Articulate Written/Verbal Skills:
- Tailored correspondence for A-grade Westminster and private-sector audiences.
- UK-work-right status (onus on applicant to ensure eligibility).
