Head of Operations & Maintenance HVDC
About the role
Head of Operations & Maintenance - HVDC
Hybrid - Sandwich, Kent (with regular travel to London, Warwick, and Belgium)
We’re looking for a senior leader to join Nemo Link and play a critical role in shaping the future of international electricity interconnection.
Nemo Link is a pioneering joint venture between National Grid and Elia, connecting the UK and Belgium. Since entering operation in 2019, it has set industry benchmarks for availability, innovation, and safety—being Europe’s first Cap and Floor interconnector, the first HVDC VSC system, and the first 400kV XLPE cable installation.
As Head of Converter Operations & Maintenance, you’ll take accountability for the safety, performance, and reliability of both converter stations (UK and Belgium). You’ll lead high-performing, multinational teams and set the strategic and operational direction to ensure Nemo Link continues to deliver exceptional results and supports the transition to a cleaner energy future.
What you'll be doing
- Provide strategic, operational, and technical leadership across converter station operations, maintenance, and asset management, ensuring high performance, reliability, and continuous improvement
- Lead and develop multi-disciplinary teams, driving accountability, fostering a zero-harm safety culture, and acting as the key escalation point for operational decisions
- Deliver asset health, maintenance, and compliance strategies, including regulatory and cyber security requirements, to maximize availability and ensure resilience
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including National Grid and Elia, to share best practice, drive innovation, and deliver consumer value
- Champion operational excellence, business change, and emergency response readiness across the organisation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
