I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You'll Fit Right In If You Have
- Consulting background - MBB, Big 4, or top-tier operations/strategy firms
- 7+ years in operations - corporate operations, business operations, or operational leadership roles
- Tech or startup exposure - You've seen what good (and bad) operations look like in fast-moving environments
- Builder mentality - You don't just optimize what exists; you create new systems from scratch
- Bias for action - You know when to move fast with 80% certainty vs. when to slow down and get it right
- Cross-functional leadership - You can influence without authority and get teams to row in the same direction
- Strong analytical skills - Data-driven decision making comes naturally, but you don't let analysis paralysis slow you down
- Scrappiness - You're comfortable with ambiguity and can toggle between strategic thinking and rolling up your sleeves
