About Health Innovation East

Our purpose at Health Innovation East is to turn great ideas into positive health impact. We were established by the NHS to convene all partners in the health sector, to develop and deliver innovative solutions in health and care. Our focus is the East of England, but we are also part of a national network which enables us to deliver at scale. Our consulting offer also extends beyond the East of England, and we are increasingly undertaking national commissions. Citizens, academia, health services and industry will achieve more working together than they will in isolation. Our job is to make this happen. We do this by helping innovators to navigate complex systems, generate value propositions and connect stakeholders to overcome challenges together.

Role Purpose

The Patient Safety team leads on the delivery of quality improvement (QI) programmes in line with NHS England’s National Patient Safety Strategy. This includes working primarily with local NHS organisations to support teams in undertaking QI projects to improve outcomes for patients, families, and carers. The team is currently working on four national patient safety improvement programmes including maternity and neonatal safety, systems safety (Patient Safety Incident Response Framework), Martha’s Rule and managing deterioration and medicines safety. As Head of Patient Safety, you will be responsible for overseeing delivery of and providing quality improvement expertise across all patient safety programmes, as and when required. The post holder will lead a high performing team including programme managers and clinicians, all of whom are skilled in programme delivery.

The post holder will be the Patient Safety Lead, working with peers and colleagues across the 15 Health Innovation Networks. They will also take on key strategic roles on behalf of the Director of Programmes and Quality Improvement (QI) and lead annual business planning and contract specification delivery.

The post may change over time and the post holder will be required to commit to being flexible and responsive to accommodate the changes. They will be required to work closely with other Heads of employed by the business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
