About the Role
The Head of Peer Review Management will lead the strategic design, governance, and organisation-wide adoption of future-state Peer Review Management (PRM) / Author Enablers (AE) workflows across Nature Portfolio.
Working closely with the Director of Editorial and Author Support, the role:
- Sets the direction for process, roles, systems, and governance
- Enables scalable, standardised, and future-ready PRM solutions
- Drives SNAPP migration by representing PRM needs to the product team
- Implements project goals through clear KPIs and continuous optimisation
- Guides PRM to become a core senior management pillar supporting Nature Portfolio’s rapidly expanding journal family

Job Responsibilities
1. Decision Quality & Managing Complexity
- Stewardship of future-state AE workflows through:
- Defining improved, scalable, and SNAPP-aligned solutions
- Guiding workflow design with cross-portfolio standardisation
- Serve as PRM leader in workflow transformation governance by:
- Establishing decision frameworks, escalation protocols, and ownership models
- Resolving conflicts among competing priorities, roles, and functional areas
2. Publishing Workflows and Systems
- Lead NP PRM representative for SNAPP integration:
- Ensure preparedness of PRM teams
- Plan training and onboarding strategies
- Champion PRM positioning within system roadmaps and redesigns
3. Project Management
- Oversee workflow transformation strategy, including:
- Change communication and alignment
- Capacity modelling to mitigate resistance/ morale risks
- Proactively assess team training, role transitions, and future shifts in capability gaps
4. Operational Excellence
- Design next-generation PRM roles and control models, ensuring clarity on task ownership
- Partner with Editorial leadership to:
- Develop PRM performance KPIs & measurement frameworks
- Iterate and refine PRM processes post-implementation to match business goals
5. Action-Driven Performance Culture
- Steer PRM workstream teams with clarity, prioritisation, and cross-coordination to strategic objectives
- Data-driven decision-making: Measure, analyse, and optimise PRM outcomes for continual improvement
6. Collaboration & Stakeholder Leadership
- Build consensus with Editorial, GPO, Production, Marketing, Tech, and External Vendor Teams
- Facilitate cross-functional transparency and joint prioritisation across all business units on need-to-know basis
Skills & Requirements

Previous Experience
✔ Minimum Bachelor’s degree (technical/applied sciences preferred) ✔ Ten+ years’ experience in journal publishing workflows and peer review management ✔ Operation team leadership in multi-disciplinary, fast-evolving environments ✔ Preference (not essential) for relevant project management certifications

- Annual.Base Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000
- Eligible for an annual performance bonus plan
- Note: Salary in US enforced by pay transparency laws, with individual offers based on negotiation.
Benefits vary by country due to regional labour laws.

For candidates based outside the United States, the salary range aligns with respective local market standards.
