Head of Policy, Climate & Health (Permanent, £84,640 – £105,800)
About The Wellcome Trust
The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation focusing on improving health for everyone by funding science, shaping health policy, and driving advocacy. Over the next decade, it aims to invest £16bn to advance breakthroughs in life, health, and wellbeing. Central to this mission are three ambitious global health challenges—mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health—for which bold action through science, partnerships, and policy is required.
Climate change is one of the most significant threats to global health. Wellcome’s Climate & Health programme generates critical evidence, forges alliances, and advocates for change that safeguards both human health and the environment. The Policy team supports this work by translating evidence into policy action, ensuring health priorities are central to climate decision-making and accelerating progress.
About The Role
You are invited to join Wellcome’s Global Health Policy Team, based within the wider Policy & Partnerships department as the Head of Policy, Climate & Health. This newly established role will ensure Wellcome’s Climate & Health influencing strategy is realised through bold policy leadership.
As an integral part of the Climate & Health team, your responsibilities include:
- Leading the development of Wellcome’s vision and strategy on climate and health.
- Positioning yourself as a prominent thought-leader, spokesperson, and advisor within the organisation and globally on this urgent agenda.
- Guiding a high-performing, multidisciplinary team in fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment that empowers creative, impactful solutions.
This is an opportunity to make the biggest health impact through climate urgency—driving progress with both long-term strategy and immediate tactical action.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
