About Us

National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About The Role

At National Gas, we're delivering some of the most critical investment programmes in the country and we're looking for a Head of Portfolio Performance to play a pivotal role in ensuring our investment portfolio delivers against its strategic, financial and regulatory commitments.

As Head of Portfolio Performance, you'll sit at the heart of National Gas's Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO), providing strategic and critical insights to support Executive and Board-level decision-making.

If you're someone who thrives on turning complex data into meaningful insight, influencing senior decision-makers, and driving performance across major programmes, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact at a national scale.

What you'll be doing

  • Providing a trusted view of portfolio performance across our investment programmes.
  • Analysing portfolio performance to identify trends, risks, opportunities and areas requiring intervention.
  • Challenging and assuring delivery performance across scope, schedule, cost and regulatory commitments.
  • Partnering closely with Delivery Directorates, Regulatory and Finance to understand delivery challenges, align performance expectations and support the development of practical solutions that improve outcomes.
  • Developing insightful executive reporting that translates complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Supporting Executive and Board governance forums with robust analysis and decision support.
  • Leading quarterly investment forecasting and providing strategic insight into future portfolio outcomes.
  • Assessing performance against regulatory allowances and funding mechanisms, highlighting risks and optimisation opportunities.
  • Leading key elements of National Gas's regulatory reporting and assurance activities.
  • Managing relationships with Ofgem and coordinating performance discussions with external regulatory stakeholders.
  • Driving continuous improvement through automation, analytics, visualisation tools and enhanced reporting practices.
  • Building organisational capability in portfolio performance management, governance and data-driven decision making.
  • Leading, developing and motivating a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
