An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Procurement to join a growing construction organisation during a period of significant transformation. This 12-month interim assignment, with the potential to become permanent, offers the chance to lead an established procurement function, shape future strategy, and deliver lasting commercial value. Based in Essex, the role operates on a hybrid basis with 3 days per week in the office.

Your new role

As Interim Head of Procurement, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to a well-established procurement team while driving procurement transformation across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing the procurement function through a period of change and continuous improvement
  • Managing and mentoring a small procurement team to deliver high performance
  • Developing and implementing procurement strategy aligned to business objectives
  • Overseeing sourcing, supplier management, contract management, and procurement governance activities
  • Driving cost optimisation, supply chain resilience, and commercial value across a diverse spend portfolio
  • Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and operational leaders
  • Improving procurement processes, systems, policies, and reporting capability
  • Managing strategic supplier relationships and supporting critical commercial negotiations
  • Embedding best practice procurement and category management approaches across the organisation

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience as a Head of Procurement, Procurement Director, or senior procurement leader
  • Previous procurement leadership experience within the construction, infrastructure, property, or related sectors
  • Experience managing and developing procurement teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and leadership skills
  • Strong commercial acumen with expertise in supplier negotiation and contract management
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on when required
  • CIPS qualification preferred or equivalent procurement experience
