OpenFX: Head of Design
The Problem and the Role
OpenFX is on a mission to move money as freely as data, unrestricted by time zones, banking hours, or legacy systems. We are building the infrastructure that will power the next generation of cross-border payment systems for institutions.
We are seeking an exceptional Head of Design to lead our design organisation during a critical phase of product maturity and scale. You will own the end-to-end design vision for our platform, creating intuitive interfaces that make complex financial operations feel simple for our institutional partners.
This is a foundational role where you will:
- Lead the design strategy for our core suite of products across multiple currencies and blockchain networks.
- Establish design operations supporting 10x growth trajectory, enabling rapid iteration while maintaining quality and consistency.
What You'll Actually Do & Own
Audit & Rebuild
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of current design system and user experience within your first six months.
- Identify critical gaps where design debt limits scalability.
- Establish the foundation for a world-class design organisation.
Design Financial Tooling
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams
- Enhance trading interfaces (e.g., order books, position management).
- Improve treasury management interfaces for capital allocation decisions.
- Design operational dashboards to track and reconcile transactions efficiently.
Build the Design System
- Create a scalable design system supporting multiple product lines.
- Define approach for institutional user research with regulated environments.
- Embed accessibility and usability standards into every deliverable.
- Establish design operations for rapid iteration without sacrificing consistency.
Build and Mentor the Team
- Build and grow a design team during 10x growth.
- Define hiring standards, voice, and culture for design excellence.

Shape Design Strategy

Requirements
Experience & Expertise
- 8+ years in design, with 3+ years leading design for:
- Trading systems
- Market-making platforms
- Treasury management
- Institutional financial software
- Portfolio evidence demonstrating impact on platforms where millions of dollars move based on user actions.
Trading UI/UX Expertise
- Deep, hands-on experience with:
- Order books
- Position management
- P&L visualisation
- Risk dashboards
- Experience translating dense financial information into clear interfaces for both novice operators and expert power users.
Banking & Payments Knowledge
- Knowledge of banking and payments, including:
- Onboarding flows
- KYC/compliance
- Reconciliation tools
- Experience balancing innovation with institutional regulatory requirements.
Systems Thinking
- Ability to architect design frameworks while ensuring pixel-perfect attention to detail.
- Pragmatic understanding of when to standardise components vs. when to implement custom solutions.

Collaborative & Pragmatic Nature
- Skilled in negotiating with product managers and engineers to make sensible tradeoffs.
- Able to articulate design rationale, making decisions with imperfect information under ambiguity.
Preferred
Digital Asset Fluency
- Experience with both fiat and digital asset contexts, including:
- Stablecoins
- DeFi protocols
- Crypto trading platforms
Design System Architecture
- Experience building design systems from scratch for complex B2B platforms, including:
- Component libraries
- Design tokens
- Documented workflows for consistency
User Research in Institutional Contexts
- Experience conducting targeted user research with institutional stakeholders.
