Head of Development – Renewable Energy (MRES-ET)

We are seeking an experienced Head of Development to join our MRES-ET team in London (with weekly office attendance).
About the Role
This critical leadership position is dedicated to overseeing the development of renewable energy projects, ensuring our teams deliver high-impact strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will:
- Drive UK & Ireland-wide renewable energy growth, with a focus on solar and battery storage
- Lead a high-performing development team through all project stages
- Manage an existing pipeline of projects, facilitating progression to Ready to Build (RTB) status
- Foster strong stakeholder relationships with governments, developers, investors, and communities
- Collaborate closely with EPC, Legal, and Grid teams to streamline project development
- Participate in M&A activities (project sales and acquisitions)
- Identify and evaluate new commercial opportunities in the renewable sector
- Review planning documentation and coordinate with consultancies during due diligence
- Champion METLEN’s reputation through industry outreach

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Project Oversight
- Develop and implement strategic plans for renewable energy projects (solar/battery storage) in the UK & Ireland
- Monitor and advance the existing project pipeline, mitigating risks and ensuring timely progression to RTB
- Represent METLEN at industry events to strengthen brand visibility and partnerships
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional development team across project lifecycle stages
- Work closely with EPC, Legal, and Grid teams to align development tasks with broader business goals
External Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with government bodies, local communities, developers, and investors
- Assist the grid team in planning and securing land for connection assets
M&A & Commercial Insights
- Engage in Merger & Acquisition activities for project transfers (sales/purchases in the region)
- Identify new commercial opportunities within the UK and Ireland
Regulatory & Reporting
- Review planning documentation during due diligence and liaise with consultancies
- Prepare materials for the internal investment committee
- Generate regular reports for internal and external stakeholders

What You Bring to METLEN
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
- Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Business Management
- Related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in renewable energy project development
- Essential: 2+ years in a similar leadership role (e.g., Development Manager, Senior Project Lead)
Key Skills & Attributes
- Proven leadership in fast-paced, high-impact business environments
- Strong critical thinking and time management with multitasking and prioritisation experience
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Willingness to travel for projects and stakeholder meetings
