Head of Provision

Head of Provision

Location: Wellington Salary: Leadership Scale L15–L21 (dependent on experience) Contract: Temporary to Permanent (end date TBC) Start Date: 1 September 2026

About the Role

Five Education are recruiting an innovative and compassionate Head of Provision for an exciting new Specialist SEMH Alternative Provision, opening in Wellington in September 2026.

This rare opportunity is for someone who can establish a flagship provision, offering 100% one-to-one support to no more than 15 young people with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of these pupils have experienced:

  • Tier 4-level emotional distress
  • Suicidal ideation & self-harming behaviours
  • Multiple care placements
  • Disrupted education & developmental delays
  • Significant trauma

The mission: Rebuild confidence, forge educational pathways, and demonstrate the belief that transformation is possible despite overwhelming barriers.

This is more than a leadership role—it’s an invitation to reshape specialist education for vulnerable young people and influence SEND practices across the UK as the organisation expands.

The Head of Provision, as strategic, operational, and cultural director, will:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team (therapeutic professionals, educators, and support staff)
  • Champion a culture which marries compassion with high academic & personal expectations
  • Ensure relational leadership drives trauma-informed, therapeutic approaches
  • Strengthen relationships with carers, local authorities & external agencies
  • Foster safeguarding standards, attendance targets, and positive behaviour
  • Chart continuous improvement while defining the school’s ethos

The Wellington initiative is a flight school for young lives: small cohorts (5 learners initially), tailored learning without the constraints of a mainstream classroom.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
