Salary: Zone 4 £74,958 - £78,793 per annum Hybrid working, flexible

Newark and Sherwood District Council is situated in the historic market town of Newark, in the heart of Nottinghamshire. We’re proud of our vast district and our national attractions including the National Civil War Centre, Newark Castle, Southwell Minster and Sherwood Forest. We’re easily accessible by both road and rail and we boast some of the nicest parks and green spaces in England.

Would you like to lead the Council on a wide range of public protection matters? As our new Head of Public Protection, you will lead three teams, focussing on a wide range of statutory responsibilities including, environmental health and licensing, private sector housing, community safety, public realm CCTV, emergency planning and business continuity. You will also take full responsibility for the Council’s corporate approach to health and safety, risk management and insurance, ensuring full up-to-date communications on key national and local developments within these key areas, whilst using your knowledge and learning to deliver service improvements in line with the Authority’s Community Plan.

With demonstrable experience in resource management, in providing direction and strong people management skills, you will have a background and knowledge in Environmental Health and/or Public Protection at a senior level. You will deliver against strategic and operational requirements including service specific projects funded both internally and externally.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
