Leading QM Opportunity for Defence/Aerospace Firm in Newcastle
About the Role
Head of Quality/Senior Quality Manager – a senior leadership position at a defence/aerospace manufacturing firm based in Bedlington/Blythe, Newcastle/Northumberland.
This dynamic role allows you to lead and shape the Quality Management function within a forward-thinking company that values excellence, innovation, continuous improvement, and a supportive culture. The Role & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing quality objectives, improvement strategies, and compliance plans aligned with company goals, AS9100 standards, and regulatory requirements
- Chairing Management Reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS) and identify improvement opportunities
- Leading, mentoring, and motivating the Quality team to create a high-performing, inclusive environment
- Managing regulatory compliance across standards such as REACH, CMRT, RoHS, and EMRT
- Monitoring regulatory changes and ensuring internal/external compliance updates
- Tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), customer complaints, and irregularities, then leading ** correction/prevention projects**
- Implementing process and product control strategies, including:
- PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Supplier & Internal Audits (Layered Process & Final Goods)
- Developing ISO procedures to enhance compliance, standardisation, and operational efficiency
- Performing internal audits, supplier audits, and customer audits to uphold AS9100 certification
- Driving corrective and preventive actions using 8D, Mistake Proofing, and problem-solving methodologies

Requirements & Experience
This role suits a thoughtful, results-driven leader with:
✔ Proven senior leadership experience in Quality Management within manufacturing, with a track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives ✔ Deep technical expertise in the Aerospace, Defence, or Automotive sectors ✔ Strong knowledge of AS9100, QS 9000, ISO 9000, and TS 16949 standards and methodologies (FMEA, SPC, 8D, MSA, Layered Process Audits) ✔ Exceptional mentoring and team development skills ✔ Qualifications in Quality Management, Regulatory Compliance, or related fields
