Head of Quality Control – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Role
The senior leadership position of Head of Quality Control (QC) at a pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation ensures laboratory testing and analytical activities are delivered safely, compliantly, and efficiently, while contributing to site strategy and performance objectives.
The role sits on the Site Leadership Team and involves collaboration with senior stakeholders to define and deliver KPIs, shape operational strategy, and drive continuous improvement across the QC function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the QC function as part of the Site Leadership Team, contributing to strategy and performance delivery
- Oversee all QC activities, including:
- Raw materials testing
- Finished products testing
- Stability and validation testing
- Data review and investigation
- Ensure adherence to GMP compliance, data integrity, and safe working practices across the laboratory
- Develop and improve QC systems to guarantee timely and reliable release of results
- Lead, develop, and engage QC teams to foster a high-performance culture
- Manage the QC budget and resource planning
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance:
- Efficiency
- Quality performance
- Reduction in cost of poor quality
- Support analytical method transfers and validation activities, ensuring compliant implementation and proper documentation

Experience and Qualifications
- A degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent experience; an MSc is desirable
- Significant experience in leading a QC laboratory within a regulated pharmaceutical or life sciences environment
- Strong GMP knowledge, with broad experience across:
- Chromatography
- Wet chemistry
- Instrumentation
- Microbiological testing
- Proven leadership experience in:
- Managing teams
- Developing people
- Strong:
- Communication skills
- Technical writing skills
- Problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, compliance, and continuous improvement
