My client is looking for a Head of R&D to lead its materials science team in Oxford.
This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on scientific leader to drive the development of next-generation nanomaterials and shape the company’s R&D strategy.
Job responsibilities
- Lead the company’s R&D programme, overseeing laboratory operations and the delivery of research projects
- Drive the development of novel materials technologies from concept through to scalable, manufacturable products
- Provide technical leadership across materials chemistry, nanomaterials and functional materials research
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, research directions and experimental approaches
- Lead, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team of scientists, including recruitment and performance development
- Manage the research portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high scientific standard
- Work closely with senior leadership, external partners and funding bodies to support business growth and technology development

Experience Required
- PhD (or equivalent industrial experience) in Materials Science, Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong hands-on laboratory background in materials chemistry, nanomaterials or functional materials
- Proven experience leading and developing multidisciplinary R&D teams
- Track record of translating laboratory research into scalable products or manufacturing processes
- Experience identifying and driving new research initiatives and technology development
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
