Head of Relationship Management

Key Accountabilities

Strategic & Business Outcomes

You will define and deliver the strategic direction and performance of a major client coverage business, driving sustainable growth, strengthening market position and ensuring the business is equipped to meet evolving client, industry and organisational priorities.

Delivery, Change & Transformation

You will lead the successful evolution of the coverage operating model, embedding transformation initiatives that enhance effectiveness, scalability and productivity while maintaining focus on client outcomes and commercial performance.

Commercial, Customer or Colleague Impact

You will accelerate commercial outcomes across a large relationship management organisation by improving client engagement, deepening strategic relationships and creating long-term value through disciplined business leadership and execution.

Risk, Governance & Control

You will ensure the business delivers sustainable performance within a strong risk and control environment, providing senior oversight of governance, credit, conduct and regulatory obligations while maintaining operational resilience and sound decision-making.

Leadership, Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

You will act as a trusted senior leader and delegate, influencing enterprise-wide decisions and building strong partnerships across Banking, Private Bank and Group functions to align priorities, deliver outcomes and represent the organisation internally and externally.

Capability, Innovation & Future Readiness

You will build a high-performing leadership team and future talent pipeline, developing organisational capability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement that strengthens succession readiness and positions the business for long-term success.


Purpose of the Role

To manage relationship management initiatives and set the strategic direction. Provide support to the bank's senior management team, and to manage product development risk across the organisation.


Accountabilities

  • Development of strategic direction for relationship management, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
  • Management of relationship management initiatives, including oversight of colleagues and their performance, implementation of departmental goals and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Relationship management of relationship management stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders and maintenance of external third-party services quality.
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures for relationship management.
  • Management of relationship management risk, including identification of potential risks, development of strategies to mitigate those risks, and maintenance of alignment between the bank’s relationship management and compliance functions.
  • Monitoring the financial performance of relationship management, including revenue, profitability, and cost control.
  • Conducting thorough market research to understand market trends, competitive landscape and regulatory changes to identify market opportunities.

Director Expectations

To manage a business function, providing significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business-wide.

  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business.
    • For an individual contributor, they lead organisation-wide projects and act as a deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross-functionally.
    • They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long-term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions.
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
    • Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensuring regulations are observed and that relevant processes are in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/Group to achieve overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within the own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector/functional knowledge and insight into external market developments/initiatives.
