Head of Research - Executive Search - VC Backed CFO Practice
Remote first
We are currently working with a growing specialist executive search firm that partners with founders, CEOs and investors to appoint CFOs and senior finance leaders into VC and PE-backed businesses across the UK and US.
Due to significant growth in retained search activity, they’re looking to hire a Head of Research (or an experienced Senior Researcher ready to step up) to play a central role in delivering senior finance leadership searches.
The position offers the opportunity:
- Lead research across high-profile CFO and finance leadership mandates
- Partner closely with founders and senior consultants on UK and US searches
- Own market mapping, candidate identification, outreach and assessment
- Drive improvements to research processes, documentation and delivery standards
- Help shape and build the research function as the business continues to grow

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
