About The Role
We are seeking to recruit a Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality to support our UK and Ireland Projects business. This is a leadership position, with responsibility for managing a team of SHEQ professionals who will support colleagues, maintain high standards, ensuring compliance, all while driving a culture of safety and best practice for our businesses.
What You Will Do
As a member of the UK&I Management Team, you will report to the Managing Directors for all HSEQ activities in the UK and Ireland.
- You will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of employees and stakeholders across the organisation, enforcing compliance with HSE legislation and driving continuous HSEQ improvement.
- You will apply the implementation and continuous improvement of our HSEQ management system, interfacing and collaborating regularly with our wider company group.
- You will lead the effective local implementation of corporate HSEQ policies, standards, procedures, and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with UKI business objectives, and provide guidance, support, and assurance to managers and colleagues to achieve consistent standards across all relevant activities.
- You will line manage a HSEQ team in all aspects of day-to-day HSEQ management, across our onshore portfolio of development and construction solar PV, BESS and wind projects, including but not limited to civils and High Voltage electrical work packages and other general business activities.
- You will be responsible for driving incident reporting and investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and effective implementation of corrective actions (including organisational learning).
- You will lead the development of and promote a strong HSEQ culture through training, communication and stakeholder engagement, representing the UK&I business on internal and external communications on all HSEQ matters as appropriate.
- You will support the HSEQ aspects of the Integrated Management System; including but not limited to – policy and procedure development and roll out, incident management, HSEQ risk management, HSEQ training and audit activities; with specific support on HSEQ management related to Construction, Electrical Safety, Wind and Solar PV construction.
- You will be responsible for managing HSEQ specific system documentation as required to ensure that the company retains accreditation to the ISO standards for Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management, and that support Quality Management.
- You will drive organisational change by leading HSEQ improvement initiatives, fostering employee ownership, challenging existing practices, and by promoting behaviours that enhance safety performance.
- You will monitor company HSEQ performance, through site and system performance-based audits (which includes internal and external (supplier/contractor) audits).
- You will lead and participate in HAZOP and HAZCON meetings and ensure CDM compliance on our projects.

What You’ll Need To Succeed
- You must have a strong Health and Safety background, with minimum NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent); and relevant Safety Management experience at the appropriate senior level.
- Strong interpersonal skills together with demonstrable understanding and experience of process safety, CDM compliance and an understanding of renewable project development and delivery.
- As HSEQ leader, preferably you have worked in renewables or construction; and have proven knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety management required to embed and operate an accredited ISO management system.
- You have high level of customer and stakeholder service orientation and a strong willingness to learn and develop.
- You have advanced IT literacy, with extensive experience using HSEQ management systems, data analysis and reporting tools, and the ability to lead the implementation and adoption of new digital technologies that enhance HSEQ performance.
- You are able to work in a leadership role calmly under pressure and you are strong organiser, able to prioritise workload and allocate team deliverables and KPIs.
- You solve problems systematically and have an analytical and structured way of working.
- You are a team player with strong communication and presentation skills and with the ability to work independently.
- Willingness to be part of an escalation team to deal with out of hours emergency events.
- An appreciation of, interest in or preferably a holder of a qualification in environmental and/or quality management
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Willingness to travel within the UK and Ireland as required.
