Full Time – Hybrid Location: Derby - Raynesway

About the Role

You will provide functional leadership and direction for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) within Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd (RRSL), ensuring safe operations and construction across all business functions.

This role requires you to:

  • Develop and deliver HSE strategies aligned with business and functional direction while managing key HSE risks.
  • Partner with senior leaders to embed effective HSE leadership and governance.
  • Design HSE frameworks, tools, assurance systems, and processes to reinforce safety culture.
  • Lead an HSE team in implementing improvement plans and proactively addressing emerging risks.
  • Collaborate internally and externally, fostering teamwork, accountability, and safety-first behaviours.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Develop and implement risk-based HSE programmes based on the risk profile.
  • Identify and manage HSE critical controls, including maintenance programmes.
  • Lead management of change during business transformations.

Safety Culture & Operational Excellence

  • Set the tone for safety through leadership by example.
  • Drive HSE maturity improvements via functional and business changes.
  • Represent Rolls-Royce in HSE governance initiatives.

Incident Learning & Accountability

  • Oversee incident reviews and learning for continuous improvement.
  • Coach senior leaders in active incident response.

HSE Performance & Reporting

-ährbe reports and analyse the HSE Balanced Scorecard to guide improvements.

  • Design a risk-based assurance programme, aligning with legal and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance

  • Ensure robust HSE regulatory compliance and behave work with regulators.
  • Establish a competency framework for building HSE skills, addressing capacity gaps.

Key Experiences & Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years’ experience in HSE leadership, including SME (subject matter expert) for mitigating major hazards.
  • *Nuclear sector experience (desirable).
  • Major construction project experience.
  • Track record in proactive risk management and problem-solving.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders on safety policies and improvements.
  • HSE governance & assurance expertise.
