This is an exciting opportunity to join an established, family-owned business based in Leeds as Head of Sales – Distribution Transformers. This newly created role will play a pivotal part in driving continued business growth, leading a high-performing sales team, and developing strategic customer relationships across the UK and beyond.
The Role
Reporting to the Sales & Commercial Director, the Head of Sales will be responsible for developing and delivering the Company's sales strategy, achieving agreed objectives and KPIs, and ensuring the business consistently exceeds sales and revenue targets.
This is a home-based role with regular travel to customers, the Leeds head office, and occasional international travel.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve business objectives across T2 & e4 Distribution Transformers, together with Small and Medium Power Transformers.
- Lead the delivery of agreed sales targets, pipeline objectives, and key performance indicators.
- Support Regional and National Sales Managers by providing hands-on leadership throughout the sales cycle, from lead generation through to securing new business.
- Review and agree customer visit plans to maximize sales opportunities.
- Promote and drive the effective use of the CRM system across the sales team.
- Forecast sales performance using available market and business data, setting realistic performance goals.
- Develop long-term strategic partnerships with key customers and negotiate major commercial agreements.
- Identify opportunities to grow both buying and non-buying accounts while expanding into new markets.
- Monitor competitors, market activity, and industry trends to maintain a competitive advantage.
- Develop and implement new sales initiatives, strategies, and programmes to support business growth.
- Ensure sales processes and best practices are consistently followed across the team.
- Remove barriers to winning new business and support the successful conversion of opportunities.
- Monitor strategic account plans to ensure customer objectives and growth plans remain on track.
- Ensure marketing-generated leads are followed up effectively and converted into sales opportunities.
- Provide monthly sales performance reports to the Sales & Commercial Director.
- Chair and attend relevant sales meetings, providing leadership, direction, and practical solutions.
- Conduct weekly sales calls to share updates, best practice, and market intelligence.
- Prioritise effectively, distinguishing between urgent operational issues and long-term strategic objectives.
- Act as a passionate ambassador for AmT, promoting the company's sustainability and environmental credentials.
- Represent the business at exhibitions, customer events, CPD presentations, and industry conferences across the UK and, where required, internationally.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build strong working relationships across Sales, Engineering, Marketing, and Commercial teams to drive collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with customers to understand their evolving requirements, identify new opportunities, and strengthen long-term relationships through networking and consultative selling.
- Refocus and align the sales team where necessary to ensure product category sales targets are achieved.
People Leadership
- Provide direct line management for the sales team.
- Lead, coach, and develop individuals to maximise performance and engagement.
- Clearly communicate team objectives and ensure each individual understands how their role contributes to overall business success.
- Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews against agreed objectives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A proven technical sales background with at least 10 years' experience, ideally within the electrical power supply sector or a technical manufacturing/supply environment.
- Experience at a senior sales leadership level.
- A strong track record of consistently achieving and exceeding sales targets.
- Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and commercial skills with a genuine passion for winning new business.
- Previous experience managing departmental budgets.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
- Excellent business acumen and confident decision-making abilities.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A positive, proactive, and forward-thinking approach.
- Flexibility to travel extensively throughout the UK, with occasional international travel.
- Experience within transformers is advantageous but not essential. Candidates with an LV or HV Switchgear OEM background are particularly encouraged to apply.
- An HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering is desirable.
- A customer-focused approach and a professional, enthusiastic manner.
- A full UK driving licence.

Salary & Benefits
